These are the Red Hat birthday cards I made this week--half red and half purple (they look blue in the picture.) They were easy to make and a lot of fun. I made coordinating envelopes (on the left side of the top picture.) I think I will try making my own Christmas cards this year. I've been saving Christmas cards for the last ten years, so I can cut them up for the components I need.
This is the first ornament basket I have finished from the Fons and Porter instructions. It's less than 3" across at the top. I plan on doing a beaded handle to hang it with.
Today is Monty's birthday, so he got a scrambled egg and a piece of buttered toast for breakfast. He'll get canned dog food (the good stuff) for his supper tonight, too. He's pretty spry for his age, although he uses doggie stairs to get up on the couch.
I still haven't been able to get hold of the quilter that I want for my quilt tops. I can't decide if she has a new phone number or is ignoring my messages. I have decided not to worry about it for now, and hopefully I will see her in one of the fabric stores one of these days and will talk to her then. There's really no hurry since they're for me anyway.
DH was home sick today. He gets really dizzy, not good when you're driving long distances. It is my feeling that he would do better if he ate breakfast before leaving for work, but he doesn't think it would matter. I told him that you have to put fuel in for the engine to run.

New projects
This is Monty about a week after his haircut. He doesn't like having his photo taken. He turns 13 in a week. I think he's beautiful.
I'm working on some Christmas ornaments that were shown on an episode of Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting, and the instructions were printed in the Nov/Dec 2005 issue of their magazine. They use cardstock pentagons sewn together by hand, and the finished baskets are only 1-1/4" tall. I just wanted some handwork that I can do while watching TV, etc. I'll post some photos when I get them done.
I'm working on finishing up some small projects that have been sitting around my sewing area for months. They've been overridden by the big projects for too long. I have a few fabric postcards that are half done, and some wine coasters to make that were a project from my quilt group from last year. I may also make a zippered bag for my DIL to go with her purse, since I had a couple of pieces left over from the quilted cover.
I've decided to try making my own greeting cards, too. I have most of the supplies already, and have been watching scrapbooking shows on Create TV and DIY where they make cards. I have just never sat down and tried it before, and it looks like fun. I did pick up some rubber stamps and some papers at the clearance bins of Michael's and Hobby Lobby today.
I got a new cell phone this week. I had one that I could never get to work properly because I didn't really understand the system. I bought a Jitterbug phone--the cell phone for low-tech people. It does nothing but make phone calls. Large buttons, and easy to understand features. I'm still getting used to it, but it's much better than the old one.
Gotta go now--it's free root beer float night at Sonic!
